2020 EMCDDA expert meeting on the epidemiological indicator Drug-related deaths (DRD)

On 13-14 October 2020, the EMCDDA brings together more than seventy European and international experts for a meeting on the key indicator Drug-related deaths. The meeting provides a space for sharing and discussing new data, studies and experiences at regional, national and European level.

It also aims to facilitate technical work around the collection and analysis of the different components of this indicator: overdose and toxicological information from special mortality registers; data from the general mortality registers; mortality cohort studies; as well as developments in responses.

During the specific session with the EU4MD countries, participating experts will have the opportunity to share their latest information on drug-related harms and discuss their experience in using the EMCDDA reporting tools and methodology.

Meeting topics

This year particular attention is given to:

  • COVID-19, its impact on drug-related deaths and prepardeness across Europe
  • Preliminary analysis and discussion of the DRD data reported in 2020
  • Mortality cohort studies among drug users for action oriented information
  • Recent findings and insights from the European network of forensic toxicology experts
  • Recent trends and outbreaks of new psychoactive substances-related deaths
  • Responses to reduce overdose deaths, with a focus on take home naloxone
