IPA8 bursaries for 2023 European Drugs Summer School

Bursaries for the 2023 European Drugs Summer School (EDSS) are currently being offered through the EMCDDA’s Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance 8 (IPA8) project. Professionals, academics or experts from the Western Balkans are encouraged to apply.

The EDSS, organised by the University Institute of Lisbon (ISCTE-IUL) and the EMCDDA, will be delivered face to face in Lisbon from 26 June–7 July 2023. With the overall theme of ‘Illicit drugs in Europe: demand, supply and public policies’, the course will focus specifically on mental health and drug-related issues.

The EDSS will include lectures with experts and practitioners, study visits to project sites and individual exercises (see full EDSS programme).

Completion of a written test at the end of the course is compulsory for those wishing to obtain credits. The course will be conducted in English; therefore, students should have a good written and spoken level of the language.

To apply for an IPA8 bursary, candidates from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo*, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia should register for the EDSS directly on the ISCTE-IUL website.

Registration deadline: 29.05.2023. Registration may close before this date if all places are filled.

The EMCDDA may contact applicants to schedule an online interview for selection.

The IPA8 bursaries cover the registration fee and the travel to Lisbon. Accommodation and meals outside of the school programme are not included.

Funded by the European Union, the IPA8 project will run from 2023 until the end of 2026. The project promotes and supports Western Balkan uptake of EU best practices and approaches in the areas of health and security. It also aims to strengthen strategic and operational cooperation within the Western Balkans, and between the region and the EU, in the area of drug monitoring and information (see IPA8 objectives).
