Introduction:

On 26 and 27 June 2012, the EMCDDA brought together 49 experts from all EU Member States and several other countries for the annual meeting on the key epidemiological indicator ‘Prevalence and patterns of drug use among the general population’ (GPS).
The meeting devoted some of its time to allowing participants share information on recent developments in drug use (among the general population) in Europe overall and particularly in countries with recent surveys.
The meeting focused also on several other topics such as school surveys, trends in the use of cannabis, cocaine and alcohol, and the use of general population surveys to monitor intensive forms of drug use, in particular cannabis.
In addition, the meeting addressed survey methodological questions such as response rates and the ongoing parallel project on the harmonisation of national databases with the aim to conduct combined analysis across countries.
