Improvement of comparability between established national treatment reporting systems

Introduction

Treatment monitoring systems are one of the information sources in the field of drug epidemiology and demand reduction, which can give valuable information on the scale and characteristics of the drugs phenomenon as well as on measures taken against these problems. This draft of a European core data set for drug treatments from 1997 was an early step in the beginning of the development of more comparable and consistent data on treatment demand (at a European level), and as the starting point for developments within the national monitoring systems themselves.
